CHARACTER STUDY ~ JABEZ

 Jabez means sorrowful or born in pain. He was named by his mother out of the circumstances surrounding his birth when she said he shall be called Jabez because “I gave birth to him in pain.” He, however, asked God to change the situation in his favour and God honored his request. 

Some Characteristics of Jabez:

√ He is from the clans of Judah. 

√ He was born in pain and named to that effect.

√ He was a man of prayer and trusted the God of his ancestors (the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob) to help change his situation for good.

√ His prayer is of significance to the Christian faith:  “Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.” 

• We ought to pray for the blessings of God over our lives and not envy others in any way. Whatever we desire must be asked in prayer in humility and God will do mighty things in us.

• He also asked for the enlargement of his territory not with the intent to brag or boast. If we are asking for great things our intent for asking should be devoid of evil motives. It should be to advance the Kingdom of God.

• We ought to also seek the Hand of God to be with us in all things so that evil cannot harm us. In Christ, we live and are set free from the antics of the evil one.  

• Though it is a self-centered prayer, we should learn to also pray for ourselves and for others around us so that it may be well with us all. 

• God will answer our honest prayers if we pray to Him.

Apollos means "one who destroys or a destroyer". He was a New Testament figure who steadily grew to become a servant of Jesus through ministry. DEVOTION ~ JUDGING RIGHTEOUSLY

Theme: Judging Righteously Text: Genesis 38:26 26 So Judah acknowledged them and said, “She has been more righteous than I because I did not give her to Shelah my son.” And he never knew her again. Previous devotion taught us that Tamar sent the pledge Judah gave her to him to identify the owner. Upon receiving the items Judah acknowledged his wrong. Judah did not allow pride or ego to cloud his judgment but rather pointed to the role he played in leading Tamar to take such a drastic step to get pregnant. Dear beloved in the Lord, don't be quick to point people's wrong without considering yours. Let us learn from Judah to never push blame to others if we are guilty. Let us Pray: Almighty God, forgive me for employing the full rigour of the law on defaulters but failing to in my own case. Grant me sound judgment to act righteously. This I ask in the Name of Jesus Christ. AMEN!

Rise up and shake the fear and doubts off.  Declare, "I am not forgotten or alone. The LORD has engraved me in His Palms. Therefore, His eyes are fixed on me, and He protects me from the wicked.
