Theme: Overcome Evil

Text: Romans 12:21

21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.


The past few days' devotions have encouraged us to choose the path of the Lord in dealing with our enemies: no revenge, live at peace with all, have good regard for things, and help our enemies in times of need. The summary of all that we have learned so far is in the text for today - Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. We are called to not succumb to the dictates of evil thoughts or actions either within us or from others around us (those who seek evil for us). The lifestyle to adopt is to surmount the evil with good thoughts and deeds in the Word of God. 

To overcome evil with good, we need to first work it out from within (our mind and heart) for from the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks (Matthew 12:34). Allowing the Holy Spirit to have His will in us creates the avenue for us to bear the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22&23). According to Nicky Gumbel, his friend Michael Timmis wrote to him in regards to bearing the fruit of the Spirit,  ‘The way I define love is by using the fruit of the Spirit, which starts with love. I believe that joy is love rejoicing, peace is love at rest, patience is love waiting, kindness is love interacting, goodness is love initiating, faithfulness is love keeping its word, gentleness is love empathising, and self-control is love resisting temptation.’ Let us learn to overcome evil with good in love.


PRAYER: Dear God, thank You for the Word. I pray that love increases more and more in me every moment of my life and that I will overcome evil with good at all times. This I ask in the Name of Jesus Christ.

DEVOTION ~ JUDGING RIGHTEOUSLY

Theme: Judging Righteously Text: Genesis 38:26 26 So Judah acknowledged them and said, “She has been more righteous than I because I did not give her to Shelah my son.” And he never knew her again. Previous devotion taught us that Tamar sent the pledge Judah gave her to him to identify the owner. Upon receiving the items Judah acknowledged his wrong. Judah did not allow pride or ego to cloud his judgment but rather pointed to the role he played in leading Tamar to take such a drastic step to get pregnant. Dear beloved in the Lord, don't be quick to point people's wrong without considering yours. Let us learn from Judah to never push blame to others if we are guilty. Let us Pray: Almighty God, forgive me for employing the full rigour of the law on defaulters but failing to in my own case. Grant me sound judgment to act righteously. This I ask in the Name of Jesus Christ. AMEN!

Do you feel you're forgotten, rejected or insecure? Dear beloved in the Lord, you're not forgotten, for God has engraved your name in His palms. Isaiah 49:16 See, "I have engraved you on the Palms of My Hands: Your walls are ever before Me". If God has engraved your name in His palms, it means He always sees or watches over you. Rise up and shake the fear and doubts off.  Declare, "I am not forgotten or alone. The LORD has engraved me in His Palms. Therefore, His eyes are fixed on me, and He protects me from the wicked. I decree all that I have is secured in the Name of Jesus Christ. AMEN!
