CHARACTER STUDY ~ DORCAS

Dorcas also known as Tabitha was a pious woman who lived in Joppa. She died and was resuscitated by the Apostle Peter.

Some Characteristics of Dorcas:

✔ Dorcas was a disciple who learned the way of the Lord and lived according to the teaching of Jesus Christ. We must not just bear the name, Christians our deeds must show clearly to all.

✔ It was recorded of her to have fallen sick. Her dispensation and ours are not different when it comes to health issues. We need to understand both the good and wicked fall sick so we should not characterize the sick as people who have offended God.

✔ She died and was laid to rest. This also teaches us that our days are numbered and when it is up, we will account for what we used it for. We should also understand, that we will need people around to perform our final funeral rites: It is said after she was washed, they laid her in the upper chamber.

✔ She was eulogized with pieces of evidence; coats and garments she made for the widows were displayed. We need to live a fulfilled life in Christ Jesus so that the eulogies at our funeral grounds will not be contended.

✔ Her charitable deeds paved the way for the other disciples to desire Apostle Peter to intervene in prayer for her resuscitation. One thought-provoking question to ask ourselves today is "How many people will be willing to advocate for our resuscitation if we die unexpectedly?"

✔ The Apostle Peter prayed and called her forth to life by the power of the Holy Spirit. The dead Dorcas was presented alive to the saints and widows.

✔ Her resuscitation stirred up the faith of many in Joppa to believe in the Lord. May our lives draw more souls to the Kingdom of God.
