DEVOTION ~ THE FRUIT OF GODLY SORROW
Theme: The Fruit of Godly Sorrow
Text: 2Corinthians 7:11
11 For observe this very thing, that you sorrowed in a godly manner: What diligence it produced in you, what clearing of yourselves, what indignation, what fear, what vehement desire, what zeal, what vindication! In all things you proved yourselves to be clear in this matter.
In yesterday's devotion, we learned that godly sorrow leads to a change in heart and salvation whereas worldly sorrow condemns us. The Apostle Paul throws more light on what godly sorrow produces in anyone who adopts such sorrow. Godly sorrow produces the seed of humility in believers: we are humbled, earnest, sincere, and very anxious to get rid of sin in our lives. The seed of the fear of God also sprouts in us: we become conscious of the enticement of sin and its consequences when not done away with and so we take the bold step to put an end to it. We seek to please God more than self: the old nature of self-centeredness gives way to God's will to perfect us.
PRAYER: Dear God, I need You to awaken godly sorrow in me so that I may bear fruit of it to Your glory. I pray the diligence of godly sorrow to work in me both at will and for Your good pleasure. This I pray for in the Name of Jesus Christ. AMEN!
