DEVOTION ~ THE ROYAL LAW

Theme: The Royal Law

Text: James 2:8

8 If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you do well

Anyone who professes Christ is a royal and a priest therefore must be acquainted with the law of the Kingdom. The law in the Kingdom of God that is mandatory to abide by is the royal law. The premise of the law is love. Love for one's neighbour as himself. If the royal law which is love is fulfilled, then such a person is said to have done well. Why will it be said a person has done well to keep the royal law? We are constantly tempted by our own desires or the deeds of others to go contrary to the royal law. It is not easy to fulfill the royal law with a carnal mindset.

The royal law is more an action than just mere words. Love is full-time work without rest. You can't give excuses in love. This law is fully summed up in 1 Corinthians 13 where love is described as; patient, kind, not jealous, not boastful, not proud, not rude, not selfish, does not keep records of wrongs (that is to say love forgives), does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out, never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance. Dear beloved in the Lord are you able to keep the royal law?

PRAYER: Father, You instructed us to love one another but often it becomes too hard for us to do so. But we know if we are led by the Holy Spirit, we can fulfill this royal law. Heal our emotions, hearts, minds, bodies, and souls to be able to embrace the royal law and fulfill it as Christ said we should love others just as He loves us. This we ask in the Name of Jesus Christ. AMEN!
