CHARACTER STUDY ~ AGUR

Agur is mentioned in the thirtieth chapter of Proverbs to be its author. He was the son of Jakeh and his words of wisdom were directed to Ithiel—to Ithiel and Ucal. The name Agur means gatherer (together with wise men). It is also said to mean "the one who is brave in the pursuit of wisdom". Though much has not been said of him, his proverbs could guide us to know what to say of him.

Some Characteristics of Agur:

✔ He did not exalt himself to be wise but said he is more stupid than any man and does not have the understanding of a man. We ought to humble ourselves and not allow pride to destroy us.

✔ He again addressed himself as neither learned wisdom nor have knowledge of the Holy One. Yet he was able to speak volumes of the Most High. We must learn from this that, enlightenment comes from God and not from our own strength.

✔ He literally introduced that God has a Son: What is His name, and what is His Son’s name, if you know? In our dispensation, we caught the glimpse that Jesus is the Son of God.

✔ He values the Word of God: Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him. Do not add to His words, lest He rebuke you, and you be found a liar. We must also value the Word of God and evangelize the Word.

✔ He was good at comparing and contrasting life issues and giving links with the Word of God.

✔ There is no record of his death in the Bible.
