DEVOTION ~ DEAD BUT NOW ALIVE
Theme: Dead But Now Alive
Text: Luke 15:22-24
22 “But the father said to his servants, ‘Bring out the best robe and put it on him and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet. 23 And bring the fatted calf here and kill it, and let us eat and be merry; 24 for this my son was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ And they began to be merry.
The dead have no conscience as they neither know what their state is nor what is being done to them. The prodigal son is said to be dead because he chose the path of destruction and had no idea he was treading a dead end. He only came alive when he realized how miserable and wretched his life had become outside his father's home. Likewise, sin puts us to death and makes us unconscious of displeasing the Father or going contrary to His Word. We can be lost through sin: To be lost simply implies deviating from the truth.
However, when we return and confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from every form of unrighteousness. He will call on the angels to bring out the best robe and put it on us and a signet of authority on our hand, and sandals for our feet in readiness to proclaim the Gospel. There will be merry in heaven when we return to the Lord just as the father of the prodigal son called for a feast when his son returned home.
PRAYER: Thank You Lord that through Christ I have received life although I was dead, even when I got lost, His love has found me. Help me Spirit of the Living God to remain faithful in my walk with the Lord. This I asked in the Name of Jesus Christ. AMEN!
