DEVOTION~ THIS SON OF YOURS

Theme: This Son of Yours

Text: Luke 15:30

30 But as soon as this son of yours came, who has devoured your livelihood with harlots, you killed the fatted calf for him.

In yesterday's devotion, we learned that rage and grumbling are not good to be mentioned among us as Christians. The prodigal son's elder brother does not understand why their father should organize a feast to welcome him home. While talking to his father, he made reference to his brother as "this son of yours". He just does not want to have anything to do with his younger brother with the statement he made. Often most of us do refer to members of our household, colleagues at the workplace, and neighbours whom we feel are inferior using the phrase, "this one/person", "this ...".

Dear beloved in the Lord, we are all members of the body of Christ so stop degrading people based on their past mistakes. It is true the prodigal son spent his money with harlots and was wayward but he returned home as a changed man. The next time you are tempted to judge a child of God by his/her past, remember the Righteous Judge has welcomed such an individual home with a clean slate kind courtesy of the Blood of the Lamb of God (the calf killed to make merry).

PRAYER: Forgive me Lord for my utterances against others. Tame my tongue that I may season my words with Your Word before I speak them out. Help me to embrace and praise whomever you have cleansed in the Name of Jesus Christ have I prayed. AMEN!
