CHARACTER STUDY ~ NOAH (THE SON OF LAMECH)

 Last week, we learned about Noah stating that there existed two people named Noah in the Bible: the son of Lamech and the daughter of Zelophehad. We focused on Noah the daughter of Zelophehad however today, we will look at Noah the son of Lamech. The name Noah means rest and has its origin from the Hebrew name Noach. 

Some Characteristics of Noah:

✔ Noah was the son of Lamech a descendant of Seth by Methuselah. His father named him Noah hoping in the Lord for rest: “This one will comfort us concerning our work and the toil of our hands, because of the ground which the Lord has cursed.” Dear beloved in the Lord, do not just name a child because the name sounds good but rather seek to understand what the name implies. 

✔ He found grace in the eyes of God when He intended to destroy the earth because of the wickedness of men. If we desire to find grace with God then we should believe His Son Jesus Christ who is the custodian of grace. 

✔ God instructed him to build an ark. He carried out every detail to the latter without fail. We must adhere to God's instruction if we want His blessings.  

✔ Noah is very hardworking. He made the ark as God detailed out and gathered all animals male and female as well as food for himself and all that (his family and animals) was in the ark for over a year. He was six hundred years old. Age should never be a barrier to us serving God. 

✔ Noah's obedience saved him and those he entered the ark with. Obedience is essential in our walk with God. If we fail to obey Him, we will not enter into His rest.   

✔ The Lord sent a wind to subside the water on the surface of the earth because He remembered Noah after one hundred and fifty days of rain. The ark then rested on Mount Ararat in the seventh month and the water decreased until the tenth month. May God remember you for good in this year 2024. 

✔ Noah was strategic. He did not just come out of the ark but tested for safety using birds. May God grant us this wisdom as we carry out our duties this year so that we do not fall into any disaster. 

✔ He heard the voice of God to bring all that was with him in the ark out before they stepped out to land. Learn to hear the voice of God before you act.  

✔ He built an altar and sacrificed on it to the Lord. Our Altar is the cross of Jesus Christ and He is the Lamb of God that takes away the sin of men.  

✔ God established a covenant with Noah through the rainbow saying, "Never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood; never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth".

✔ The sons of Noah were Shem, Ham, and Japheth. They were in the ark with their wives. The wife of Noah was also in the ark. In all, eight of them were in the ark.

✔ Noah cultivated the land and got drunk after the harvest. He was naked in his tent. He cursed Ham for not covering his nakedness. However, he blessed the other sons.   

✔ In the New Testament what happened in his days was used to caution the people in those days even in our days. He was also mentioned as one of the fathers of faith. 

✔ Noah lived nine hundred and fifty years and he died. May God grant us long life and good health in the Name of Jesus Christ. AMEN!
