DEVOTION ~ IS IT BLASPHEMY?
Theme: Is it Blasphemy?
Text: Mark 2:6&7
6 And some of the scribes were sitting there and reasoning in their hearts, 7 “Why does this Man speak blasphemies like this? Who can forgive sins but God alone?”
In the previous devotion, we learned a paralytic man was brought to Jesus for healing. Upon seeing the faith displayed He told the paralytics your sins are forgiven. Unfortunately, the Scribes saw it as absurd for a man to forgive sin. Therefore began to reason in their hearts what Jesus said to the paralytic man was blasphemy. What then is blasphemy? Blasphemy means the action or offense of speaking sacrilegiously about God or sacred things (in simple terms profane talk). They continued to reason in their hearts to ask who could forgive sins but God alone. The question is, were the words of Jesus blasphemies? No! He can forgive sin for He is the Son of God. Amazingly after the resurrection, we understand better the empowerment of the disciples to forgive their persecutors. We all have the grace to forgive our transgressors as we desire God to forgive us. It is no blasphemy to forgive.
PRAYER: Yahweh, thank You for the grace of forgiveness in Christ Jesus. Grant me the pure heart and mind to forgive those who have done me wrong. May every thought of the Scribes be far from me and may I welcome the Lord's pardon of sin wholeheartedly. This I ask in the Name of Jesus Christ. AMEN!
