DEVOTION ~ NEW LIFE

Theme: New Life 

Text: Mark 2:21&22

21 No one sews a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; or else the new piece pulls away from the old, and the tear is made worse. 22 And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; or else the new wine bursts the wineskins, the wine is spilled, and the wineskins are ruined. But new wine must be put into new wineskins.”


Jesus made illustrations of patching old cloth to new cloth and pouring new wine in an old wineskin to explain the new life He is offering compared to being under the law. Sewing an old cloth on a new one will not look pleasing to anyone who wears it and likely, it will wear out easily. A wineskin expands under the pressure of fermentation therefore, if new and unfermented wine is put in an old and brittle wineskin, it is sure to burst. As a child of God, desire to walk with Christ under grace than to walk the path of legality where a breach of a law is a violation of all the laws. We are to do away with our old lifestyles and adopt the new life in Christ Jesus. The attempt to either sew an old cloth to a new one or pour a new wine in an old wineskin makes the Christian lukewarm. It is written in Revelation 3:16 "Because you are lukewarm (spiritually useless), and neither hot nor cold, I will vomit you out of My mouth (rejecting you with disgust)". Just as new wine must be put into new wineskins, let us embrace the new life in Christ and live it out wholeheartedly. 


PRAYER: Almighty God, help me to identify lifestyles that I portray that contradict the lifestyle expected of me as a Christian. I break away from them and embrace the new life in Christ Jesus. My life depicts the will of God even now and forevermore in the Name of Jesus Christ have I prayed. AMEN!

DEVOTION ~ JUDGING RIGHTEOUSLY

Theme: Judging Righteously Text: Genesis 38:26 26 So Judah acknowledged them and said, “She has been more righteous than I because I did not give her to Shelah my son.” And he never knew her again. Previous devotion taught us that Tamar sent the pledge Judah gave her to him to identify the owner. Upon receiving the items Judah acknowledged his wrong. Judah did not allow pride or ego to cloud his judgment but rather pointed to the role he played in leading Tamar to take such a drastic step to get pregnant. Dear beloved in the Lord, don't be quick to point people's wrong without considering yours. Let us learn from Judah to never push blame to others if we are guilty. Let us Pray: Almighty God, forgive me for employing the full rigour of the law on defaulters but failing to in my own case. Grant me sound judgment to act righteously. This I ask in the Name of Jesus Christ. AMEN!

Do you feel you're forgotten, rejected or insecure? Dear beloved in the Lord, you're not forgotten, for God has engraved your name in His palms. Isaiah 49:16 See, "I have engraved you on the Palms of My Hands: Your walls are ever before Me". If God has engraved your name in His palms, it means He always sees or watches over you. Rise up and shake the fear and doubts off.  Declare, "I am not forgotten or alone. The LORD has engraved me in His Palms. Therefore, His eyes are fixed on me, and He protects me from the wicked. I decree all that I have is secured in the Name of Jesus Christ. AMEN!
