CHARACTER STUDY ~ JAMES SON OF ZEBEDEE
Some Characteristics of James:
✔ He was among the first called disciples of Jesus Christ. He was called by Jesus to follow Him while mending his father's fishing net with his brother John.
✔ He was a part of the inner core disciples and was found around Jesus. He was a close companion to Jesus and was often in the company of John and Peter. He was a disciple who was ever ready to follow the Lord and this we must learn from. We must follow Jesus wholeheartedly and fix our schedules in His itinerary for our lives rather than fix Him in our schedules.
✔ He was with Jesus when the daughter of Jairus was raised to live and was with Jesus when Peter's mother-in-law was healed of a fever. If we walk with Jesus, we will experience His miracles every step of the way.
✔ He experienced the transfiguration of the Lord. An awesome experience that revealed the true identity of Jesus to him, John, and Peter through the voice in the cloud that overshadowed them.
✔ Although a companion of the Lord his body was too weak to keep watch at the Garden of Gethsemane. He shared Jesus' last moment with Him but could not pray because he was weak. We as humans have tendencies to be spiritually willing but our bodies will be too weak to do what is expected of us. We must take heed if we say we are standing lest we fall.
✔ His mother pleaded with Christ to give him and his brother John a place of honor in the Kingdom of God.
✔ He was in the boat when the great harvest was made when they toiled all night but Jesus asked them to cast their net for a catch.
✔ He and his brother asked Jesus if they could command fire from heaven to consume those who did not receive Jesus. We need to be extra careful not to scare people from the Lord with the gifts we have.
✔ He and the other inner core disciples wanted to know much about the signs of the end time. Their question has given us insight into what to expect as we await the second coming of Christ.
✔ He ate the Passover with the Lord in the Upper Room.
✔ He saw the risen Christ and had a good encounter with Him.
✔ He received the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost with the rest of the believers. The Holy Spirit must indwell us to accomplish God's will for our lives.
✔ He drank the cup of Christ's suffering when he was martyred. He was killed with the sword by Herod Agrippa.
