DEVOTION ~ BEAUTIFUL, YET NOT

Theme: Beautiful, Yet Not

Text: Acts 3:2&3

2 And a certain man lame from his mother’s womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms from those who entered the temple; 3 who, seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, asked for alms.

In yesterday's devotion, we learned that John and Peter went to the temple to pray at the hour of prayer. The text for consideration today is an encounter that took place at the entrance to the temple. The name of the gate at which this took place is Beautiful yet a lame helpless man lay there whose life contradicts the name of the gate: His life was not beautiful. His livelihood depends on the alms he receives from those entering the temple. On this fateful day, John and Peter also came to pray passing through that very gate there the young man encountered them and their God.

What ugly situation is weighing you down at the gate of beautiful: great marriage yet no issues, gainfully employed yet nothing to write home about on finances, having a beautiful look yet sickness is crippling your health, gaining admission into a good school yet your grades are worsening by the day, have a family yet it seems you have none, you have started a ministry yet no headway, have a business yet struggling to survive, etc...? Don't give up at your beautiful gate because it will not be long before God shall send John and Peter (your deliverers) to your beautiful gate. Let your prayer be intensified that the Lord will look favorably at you and perfect His glory in your life.

PRAYER: Almighty God, I thank You for the grace to be at the beautiful gate at the hour of prayer. Have mercy on me, deliver me from any ugly situation that has kept me at the beautiful gate and hindered me from entering through it. I decree in the Name of Jesus Christ that help comes speedily. AMEN!
