DEVOTION ~ WHAT DO YOU HAVE?

Theme: What Do You Have?

Text: Acts 3:4-6

4 And fixing his eyes on him, with John, Peter said, “Look at us.” 5 So he gave them his attention, expecting to receive something from them. 6 Then Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.”

In yesterday's devotion, we learned that a lame man lay at the entrance of the temple gate called Beautiful yet his life was contrary to the gate's name. He often lay at the Beautiful gate to ask for alms from those entering the temple. He encountered John and Peter asking them for alms. The text for today is the response to his quest. The lame man gave them the needed attention so that he could get something from them but the unexpected happened. Peter gave what he had, reiterating that, you cannot give what you do not have. What do you have to offer in your family, workplace, church, community, nation, and the world? Never underrate the potential you have in Christ Jesus. Use them to glorify God in any capacity you can. Never stress yourself over what you do not have to offer rather make good use of what you have no matter how insignificant it might be to others because what you have is an answer to the secret prayer someone has been petitioning for a long time like the lame man at the Beautiful gate.

In as much as we ought to use what we have, we must also understand that what we desire as expectation, can be over met if we rather pay attention to the giver than the gift. The lame man expected silver or gold but when he was told, silver or gold I have not, he never took his eyes off the giver's speech. He gave him a listening ear because he knew something good would come out of that speech. What attitude do you put up when people give excuses for not being able to help you? Learn from the lame man at the Beautiful gate to still look up to God and his servants to do good to you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk in the power of the Holy Spirit in your health, family, marriage, education, finances, career, businesses, and every sphere of your life.

PRAYER: Almighty God, open the eyes of my understanding to identify what you have given me in Christ Jesus so that I can make good use of it for Your glory. I pray for the courage not to give up trusting in You and Your provision for my life. I receive the power to rise and walk in the Name of Jesus Christ. AMEN!
