DEVOTION ~ EVIL COUNSELS SHALL NOT STAND
Text: Matthew 28:11-13
11 Now while they were going, behold, some of the guards came into the city and reported to the chief priests all the things that had happened. 12 When they had assembled with the elders and consulted together, they gave a large sum of money to the soldiers, 13 saying, “Tell them, ‘His disciples came at night and stole Him away while we slept.’
In previous devotion, we learned that when the angel appeared his presence frightened the guards. The text for today elaborates on what the guards did. They took to their heels to report to those who wanted the tomb guarded that what they feared had happened - the Christ is risen. The chief priest took counsel to give an evil report about the resurrection. The guards were bribed to tell the world that the disciples came at night and stole Him away while they slept. How can fishermen overpower guards Roman guards for that matter to take a dead body from the tomb? Dear beloved in the Lord, when your adversaries conspire to give false reports on you, be assured that God will not allow them to have their way. Just as their evil report about the risen Christ raises lots of questions and doubts so shall it be in your case. The Lord shall frustrate their evil reports and just as it has been proclaimed many years after the resurrection that indeed the Messiah is risen, so shall your vindication come.
Let us Pray: Dear God in You is all truth and no deceitful voice can outweigh the truth. I pray You intervene in situations in our lives that seem difficult to come out of. Let the truth triumph that Your glory shall be declared upon the earth in the Name of Jesus Christ. AMEN!
