DEVOTION ~ SEND FOR SIMON PETER
Theme: Send for Simon Peter
Text: Acts 10:5&6
5 Now send men to Joppa, and send for Simon whose surname is Peter. 6 He is lodging with Simon, a tanner, whose house is by the sea. He will tell you what you must do.”
In yesterday's devotion, we learned that Cornelius a devoted man encountered an angel of God who told him his prayers and almsgiving had come as a memorial before God. In the text for today, the angel delivers a message to him on what he ought to do. He is to send for Simon Peter an apostle of Jesus Christ. Simon Peter had a good relationship with Jesus before and after he was crucified, resurrected, and ascended into heaven. He was filled with the Holy Spirit to proclaim the Gospel on the Day of Pentecost. He had carried on zealously to preach the Good News to the end of the earth. He was in Joppa for ministry business and stayed with Simon a tanner whose house is by the sea. One thing to note is, that he probably preferred to be near the sea because of how easy it would be to baptize his new converts. His mission in Joppa was to tell people the way to salvation and that is exactly what he did in the house of Cornelius which we will learn of in subsequent devotions. We all need Simon Peter daily to keep echoing to us that it is only in Christ we can be saved not money, fame, denomination, ethnicity, or race you belong to. Most preachers have altered the Word of God to suit the tingling ears of men rather than what the Lord desires be preached. We need to promote the Simon Peter's of our dispensation so that the Gospel will advance to the end of the earth.
Let us Pray: Lord, open my eyes to see the Simon Peters You have sent to me so that I will be instructed in Your way. Help me not to allow the pleasure of this age to cloud my understanding of the things of the Kingdom. This I pray in the Name of Jesus Christ. AMEN!
