CHARACTER STUDY ~ AMAZIAH THE PRIEST

Amaziah means "Jehovah makes mighty; the Lord protects; strength of Jehovah". Four individuals are named in the Bible as Amaziah: a Levite; the King of Judah; the father of Joshah; and an idolatrous priest. Our focus for study today shall be on the latter. 


Some characteristics of Amaziah the priest at Bethel:

✔ Amaziah gave a wrong report about the prophet Amos to Jeroboam king of Israel. We need to authenticate pieces of information before circulating them. Giving false information has devastating consequences. 

✔ Amaziah disrespected the prophet, Amos saying “Go, you seer! Flee to the land of Judah. There, eat bread, and there prophesy. But never again prophesy at Bethel, for it is the king’s sanctuary, and it is the royal residence.” Contrary to his assertion, Amos was a farmer before the Lord called him to deliver His message to the Israelites. This implies Amos was not prophesying for financial benefit as Amaziah claimed.  

✔ A curse was laid on Amaziah for disregarding the message of God. “Therefore thus says the Lord: ‘Your wife shall be a harlot in the city; Your sons and daughters shall fall by the sword; Your land shall be divided by survey line; You shall die in a defiled land; And Israel shall surely be led away captive from his own land.’ ”

Apollos means "one who destroys or a destroyer". He was a New Testament figure who steadily grew to become a servant of Jesus through ministry. He was a staunch Jew.  Some Characteristics of Apollos: √ Apollos was endowed with great knowledge and was very outspoken. Do you feel you're forgotten, rejected or insecure? Dear beloved in the Lord, you're not forgotten, for God has engraved your name in His palms. Isaiah 49:16 See, "I have engraved you on the Palms of My Hands: Your walls are ever before Me". If God has engraved your name in His palms, it means He always sees or watches over you. Rise up and shake the fear and doubts off.  Declare, "I am not forgotten or alone. The LORD has engraved me in His Palms. Therefore, His eyes are fixed on me, and He protects me from the wicked. I decree all that I have is secured in the Name of Jesus Christ. AMEN!

COMMAND YOUR WEEK

What inhibits you determines what comes out of you. The two elements are light and darkness. The light within produces good, whereas darkness is evil. It is recorded in  Ephesians 5:8-9 For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light! For this light within you produces only what is good, right, and true.  Declare, "In the Name of Jesus Christ, I no longer walk in darkness but rather in light. Therefore, every product of darkness within and around me is extinct. I decree that my family and I live in light, and we enjoy what the light produces in fullness. Our deeds are good, right, and true. AMEN!"
