DEVOTION ~ WHAT'S YOUR STUMBLING BLOCK?
Theme: What's Your Stumbling Block?
Text: Revelation 2:14&15
14 But I have a few things against you because you have there those who hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit sexual immorality. 15 Thus you also have those who hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which thing I hate.
In previous devotion, we learned that the Lord acknowledged the works of the church in Pergamos. However, in the text for today, the Lord brings to light the detestable things they do in His sight. Idolatry is a despicable thing in the sight of God. Engaging in worshipping the creation other than the Creator is not right we dishonour God in doing so. The church in Pergamos was also reprimanded for its corrupt deeds of twisting the truth or justice, it also could said to have tried to hijack the destiny of people so as not to prosper them in the things they ought to prosper in as Balaam was ready to curse Israel after being warned not to do so by God. Dear beloved in the Lord, our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit therefore we ought to present it as a living sacrifice holy and acceptable unto God. Sexual immorality defiles our bodies due to this, we must flee every form of sexual sin. The stumbling blocks to our spiritual maturity are the very things the Lord have identified with the church in Pergamos. The weapon to overcome these stumbling blocks is obedience to the Word of God and living a spirit-filled life in Christ Jesus.
Let us Pray: Almighty God, help me to remove every stumbling block in my path to spiritual maturity. May I flee from all forms of sexual sins, idolatry, antagonizing others, and anything detestable to You Lord. This I ask in the Name of Jesus Christ. AMEN!
