CHARACTER STUDY ~ PASHHUR

The character for study today is Pashhur the son of Immer the priest. The name Pashhur means plenty; prosperity roundabout; surrounded by nobility; liberty; freedom; and liberation. He was mentioned only in the accounts of the prophet Jeremiah with unpleasant attributes. 

Some Characteristics of Pashhur:
√ Pashhur was the son of a priest but that did not prevent him from opposing the will of God. Being born into a Christian home does not qualify or guarantee you shall turn out to be a good Christian. Learn to build fellowship with God through His Word and seek His will in everything. 

√ Pashhur abused his office as a governor to have Jeremiah whipped and arrested for prophesying the will of God to the nation. Do not be power drunk to forget it is God who placed you there and He can relieve you of it when He pleases. Use your status in society to advance the truth and let God's will always reign. 

√ Pashhur's name was changed to "Magor-missabib which means terror on every side or the man who lives in Terror". His name is a noble name carrying fortune but because he dishonoured God, he lost it and was rather given terror on every side. Honor God and you shall be honored. 

√ It is likely Gedaliah was the son of Pashhur. 

√ The death of Pashhur is not recorded in the Bible, although it could be found in other Christian literature. The only time his death was mentioned was during Jeremiah's prophecy: "And you, Pashhur, and all who dwell in your house shall go into captivity; you shall go to Babylon, and there you shall die and be buried, you and all your friends to whom you have prophesied falsely."

Apollos means "one who destroys or a destroyer". He was a New Testament figure who steadily grew to become a servant of Jesus through ministry. He was a staunch Jew.  Some Characteristics of Apollos: √ Apollos was endowed with great knowledge and was very outspoken. DEVOTION ~ JUDGING RIGHTEOUSLY

Theme: Judging Righteously Text: Genesis 38:26 26 So Judah acknowledged them and said, “She has been more righteous than I because I did not give her to Shelah my son.” And he never knew her again. Previous devotion taught us that Tamar sent the pledge Judah gave her to him to identify the owner. Upon receiving the items Judah acknowledged his wrong. Judah did not allow pride or ego to cloud his judgment but rather pointed to the role he played in leading Tamar to take such a drastic step to get pregnant. Dear beloved in the Lord, don't be quick to point people's wrong without considering yours. Let us learn from Judah to never push blame to others if we are guilty. Let us Pray: Almighty God, forgive me for employing the full rigour of the law on defaulters but failing to in my own case. Grant me sound judgment to act righteously. This I ask in the Name of Jesus Christ. AMEN!
