CHARACTER STUDY ~ URIAH

The character of study for today is Uriah. The name Uriah is of Hebrew origin meaning God is Light. Uriah was the son of Shemaiah from Kiriath-jearim. He was a prophet of the Living God.

Some Characteristics of Uriah:

√ Uriah was a prophet during the time of the prophet Jeremiah. To be a true prophet at that time was difficult as genuine prophets have their lives at stake anytime they share the message of God.

√ Uriah's prophecy was in line with what God revealed to Jeremiah. If we avail to the promptings of the Holy Spirit, we shall receive the message of God clearly.

√ Uriah was security conscious. After delivering the message of God, he heard King Jehoiakim wanted to kill him so he fled the city to Egypt. We must learn to protect ourselves when we are faced with danger.

√ Although Uriah did his best to hide, yet Jehoiakim sent Elnathan the son of Acbor and some officials to hunt for him in Egypt.

√ Uriah was taken as a prisoner and brought back to King Jehoiakim. Persecution is bound to come our way as stand for the truth but that should not deter us from doing what is right.

√ Uriah was killed with a sword by Jehoiakim who had him buried in an unmarked grave. Death does not end the life of the faithful but rather ushers them into a glorious life.
