DEVOTION ~ AN EPISTLE TO THYATIRA

Theme: An Epistle to Thyatira
Text: Revelation 2:18
18 “And to the angel of the church in Thyatira write, ‘These things says the Son of God, who has eyes like a flame of fire, and His feet like fine brass

We have learned about the Lord's Epistle in three churches in previous devotions: Ephesus, Smyrna, and Pergamos. The text for today considers the fourth church Thyatira. The Lord Jesus addresses Himself as the Son of God, who has eyes like a flame of fire, and feet like fine brass. It is an absolute truth that Jesus is the Son of God as evident in the account of His baptism in the river Jordan where a dove proclaimed who He was after being baptised. At the mount of transfiguration, the disciples with Him also experienced His true identity through the voice that spoke in the cloud.

Jesus further illustrated Himself as having eyes like a flame of fire. Jesus chose this description of Himself from the presentation in Revelation 1:14 to emphasize the idea that His eyes looked with penetrating judgment. He described His feet as fine brass. Jesus chose this description of Himself from Revelation 1:15 to emphasize His purity because brass is pure and highly refined in the fire. It also emphasized His steadfastness, because brass was the strongest known metal in the ancient world, and feet like fine brass would be strong and unmovable. How well do you know the Lord? Be inspired by His Epistles to the churches to learn more about His true identity.

Let us Pray: Almighty God, grant me a purified spirit as the brass feet of Jesus to keep true to Your Epistles to me through the churches. This I ask in the Name of Jesus Christ. AMEN!
