CHARACTER STUDY ~ HYMENAEUS & ALEXANDER
Today, we will devote ourselves to the character study of Hymenaeus and Alexander. The name Hymenaeus means "God of marriage; hymeneal; wedding song; nuptials." The name Alexander means "Man's defender, warrior." They were all Christians but missed the mark due to false teachings.
Some Characteristics of Hymenaeus and Alexander:
√ They were Christians. The two believed in Christ and had fellowship with the believers in Ephesus. We must learn not to neglect the assembly of the righteous.
√ Hymenaeus and Alexander, with their companion Philetus, engaged in worthless arguments and led many astray with their false teaching. They left the path of truth, claiming that the resurrection of the dead has already occurred; in this way, they have turned some people away from the faith. We must dedicate ourselves to serving God diligently rather than engaging in unnecessary arguments that corrupt our behaviour.
√ Hymenaeus and Alexander were handed over to Satan by the apostle Paul. They were excommunicated from the assembly of believers to prevent them from continuing their false teachings. We need to quickly stop any form of falsehood around us to save the weak.
