DEVOTION ~ FAITHFUL SAYING I

Theme: Faithful Saying I
Text: 2 Timothy 2:11
11 This is a faithful saying: For if we died with Him, we shall also live with Him.

In today's devotion and subsequent devotions, we shall learn three faithful sayings of the apostle Paul. We shall take the first one for today's devotion. The faithful saying states, "For if we died with Him, we shall also live with Him." What does it mean to die with the Lord? To die with the Lord could imply suffering with Him, putting to death sin and living wholly for Christ, and martyrdom.

To suffer with Christ, we avail ourselves to doing good even if it will cause us to lose temporary pleasures with family, friends, and colleagues. In so doing, we do not compromise our faith, as we are resolute to please God.

Dying with Christ also implies putting to death the passion for sin when we are baptized. During our baptism, we were buried with Him through death, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so, we also should walk in the newness of life.

Another means to die with Christ is being a martyr. Most of the apostles were killed for not denouncing their faith in Christ. They have drunk the cup of Christ's suffering and so will receive the resurrection as the Lord does. Dear beloved in the Lord, in which of these categories do you find yourself? Take heart, for God will grant unto you eternal life.

Let us Pray: Almighty God, I denounce every sin I am enticed to today, and I take up my cross to diligently follow You. Please, may I die with Christ so that I may live with Him forever. This I ask in the Name of Jesus Christ. Amen!
