DEVOTION ~ A GOOD SOLDIER

Theme: A Good Soldier

Text: 2 Timothy 2:3&4

3 You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. 4 No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier.

In yesterday's devotion, we learned having an uninterrupted succession comes with teaching others rightly. The text for today uses a soldier to illustrate how we ought to endure hardship in life whether as Christians, couples, students, and business partners amongst others. Soldiers do not serve their own interests but rather the nation or people they have sworn to serve. Practically, the soldier's desire is not gratifying his will but rather the will of the nation. Likewise, are we called irrespective of who we are either as ministers of God, parents, couples, teachers, children, business associates, etc... to first consider God and others by not allowing our selfish interest or gain to distract our objectivity in being responsible. Dear beloved in the Lord, no one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life. The affairs of this life are the pleasures of self-interest or gain. We cannot please God and our loved ones if we are cynical. If you desire to follow the Lord faithfully, take up your cross and follow Him. May the Lord help us to gain a deeper understanding of this truth and reality.

Let us Pray: Almighty God, forgive me for seeking my interest in life. Help me like a soldier never to get tied up in the affairs of civilian life that seeks to promote self rather than others and Your will. Come Holy Spirit and make me please God in all I do. This I ask in the Name of Jesus Christ. AMEN!
