CHARACTER STUDY ~ THE GIANTS

In today's devotion, we shall study the giants mentioned in the Bible. The first record of giants is in Genesis. In those days, giant Nephilites lived on the earth, for whenever the sons of God had intercourse with women, they gave birth to children who became the heroes and famous warriors of ancient times. Subsequently, other giants such as giants of Gath, Anakim, and Emim were mentioned in the Bible.

Some Characteristics of the Giants:
√ The Nephilites: They are believed to be children of the sons of God who impregnated women of the earth. Due to their stature, they were heroes and famous warriors of ancient times.

√ The Giants of Gath: These giants relate to the Philistine giant Goliath whom David killed. Goliath is said to be over nine feet tall. He was killed by David with a stone slung into his forehead. The second Philistine giant Ishbibenod nearly killed David in battle but was killed by Abishai son of Zeruiah. The third Philistine giant was Saph who was killed by Sibbecai from Hushah. The fourth Philistine giant showed up during another battle at Gob. He was the brother of Goliath and was killed by Elhanan son of Jair from Bethlehem. Finally, in another battle with the Philistines at Gath, they encountered a huge man with six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot, twenty-four in all, who was also a descendant of the giants. But when he defied and taunted Israel, he was killed by Jonathan, the son of David’s brother Shimea.

√ The Anakims: These are giants of the descendants of the Nephilites who dwell in Canaan. The spies to the land of Canaan encountered them and were scared of them except Caleb and Joshua. The Anakims were defeated in battle by the Israelites led by Joshua.

√ The Emites: The giants of the Emites were described as looking like the Anakims and believed to have lived in the area of Ar. They were defeated in battle by King Chedorlaomer and the kings who were with him.

√ The Bible usually likens troubles, challenges, and agony to giants to illustrate their magnitude. Dear beloved in the Lord, these giants were defeated by the help of God, so can you. Face every giant of your destiny with the power of God through the Holy Spirit, and victory shall be yours.

√ Decree, in the name of Jesus, I trample underfoot every giant in my health, marriage, family, education, career, finances, business, investment, projects, and all spheres of my life. AMEN!
