DEVOTION ~ THE EVIDENCE
Theme: The Evidence
Text: Genesis 38:24&25
24 And it came to pass, about three months after, that Judah was told, saying, “Tamar your daughter-in-law has played the harlot; furthermore she is with child by harlotry.” So Judah said, “Bring her out and let her be burned!” 25 When she was brought out, she sent to her father-in-law, saying, “By the man to whom these belong, I am with child.” And she said, “Please determine whose these are—the signet and cord, and staff.”
Evidence is needed to determine whether an offender is guilty or not. Without evidence, it is difficult to prove if an offender is guilty. In the case of Tamar, she was found pregnant while a widow. This offence is punishable by death and there is no clemency to it. Judah did not hesitate to give the command that she be burnt to death. However, the pledge he left behind was sent to him to identify the owner. Dear beloved in the Lord, the Lord has taught us to remove the log in our eyes so we can see clearly to remove the speck in others' eyes. In subsequent devotion, we shall learn how Judah reacted on seeing his signet, cord, and staff. Let us not be quick to pronounce judge but rather act in the love of God in resolving all issues.
Let us Pray: Almighty God, teach me to be quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger. May my utterances bring honour to You. This I ask in the Name of Jesus Christ. AMEN!
