DEVOTION ~ THE FUTILE SEARCH
Theme: The Futile Search
Text: Genesis 38:20-22
20 And Judah sent the young goat by the hand of his friend the Adullamite, to receive his pledge from the woman’s hand, but he did not find her. 21 Then he asked the men of that place, saying, “Where is the harlot who was openly by the roadside?” And they said, “There was no harlot in this place.” 22 So he returned to Judah and said, “I cannot find her. Also, the men of the place said there was no harlot in this place.”
Previous devotion taught us that, Judah left his signet, cord, and staff as a pledge with Tamar for a young goat. Today's text focuses on the attempt to redeem the pledge. Judah's friend searched for the harlot but could not find her. Dear beloved in the Lord most people have also taken a wrong turn in life and have searched in futility for things they can't lay hold of. In an attempt, some lost their dear life while others have been reduced to ridicule. There is a route you think you're familiar with but you are not. To the Adullamite, the spot where they met the harlot was her grounds of commercial business. However, the men who knew the place better informed him there was no harlot in that region. The futile search in life can range from wanting to be someone else, comparing your life to others, or setting standards that end up breaking you down. Beloved in the Lord, return to the Lord and cry out to Him to save you. Ask Him His take on the circumstance and hand it to Him honourably.
Let us Pray: Almighty God, my quest for fame and the pleasures of life has led me to routes of futility. Please guide me by the leading of the Holy Spirit to make the right choices. This I ask in the Name of Jesus Christ. AMEN!
