DEVOTION ~ STEP OUT IN OBEDIENCE

Theme: Step Out in Obedience
Text: Luke 22:9-13
9 So they said to Him, “Where do You want us to prepare?” 10 And He said to them, “Behold, when you have entered the city, a man will meet you carrying a pitcher of water; follow him into the house which he enters. 11 Then you shall say to the master of the house, ‘The Teacher says to you, “Where is the guest room where I may eat the Passover with My disciples?” ’ 12 Then he will show you a large, furnished upper room; there make ready.” 13 So they went and found it just as He had said to them, and they prepared the Passover.

In the text for consideration, we witness a profound moment as Jesus instructs His disciples to prepare the Passover meal. Imagine the excitement and confusion among them! They ask, “Where do you want us to prepare it?” This question reveals their eagerness to serve, despite their uncertainty about the unfolding events. Jesus’ response is striking; He tells them to follow a man carrying a jar of water into the city. This man, likely a servant, depicts humility and service, reminding us that greatness in God’s kingdom often comes through the least expected. This seemingly simple task given to the disciples carries deep significance. It shows how God orchestrates the details of our lives, even the mundane ones.
As they entered the city, they found everything just as Jesus said, demonstrating His divine knowledge and authority. This passage invites us to trust God’s plan, even when we can’t see the complete picture. It challenges us to be attentive to the signs He places in our lives, guiding us toward our purpose. The disciples’ obedience led them to a place where they would share in the Last Supper, a moment that transforms their understanding of sacrifice and community.
In a world of uncertainty, this moment reassures us that God is always orchestrating events for our good. It’s a call to faith, to step out in obedience, and to admit that even the least details matter in His grand design. This passage reminds us that in our own lives, when we follow God’s guidance, even the least actions can lead to profound experiences. It’s a call to trust, to be attentive, and to embrace the journey, knowing that God has a purpose for each step we take.

Let us Pray: Almighty God, teach my heart to serve with diligence and to be attentive to Your direction every step of the way to my growth in Christ. This I ask in the Name of Jesus Christ. AMEN!
