DEVOTION ~ WOLVES IN SHEEP'S CLOTHINGS

Theme: Wolves in Sheep's Clothing
Text: Matthew 7:15-16
15 Beware of false prophets who come disguised as harmless sheep but are really vicious wolves. 16 You can identify them by their fruit, that is, by the way they act. Can you pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?

Yesterday's devotion taught us that the path of destruction is broad and many walk on it, but the life path is uneasy to walk on. In this regard, Jesus continues to educate us to be mindful of false prophets and their teachings. They use their title to twist the truth and to mislead their followers with false teaching. For us to distinguish between the good and bad prophets, we shall know them by their fruits. Just as we can't pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles, so a false prophet can easily be identified by their lifestyle and teaching. If a prophet fails to display the fruit of the Spirit and his teaching is misleading or contrary to our Lord's, then he is a false prophet. False prophets are wolves in sheep's clothes. They hide behind the mask of their titles to take advantage of people. Usually, their teaching is merely to entertain rather than make people grow in Christ. Beware of these false prophets lest they lead you down the broad way to hell.

Let us Pray: Almighty God, it is written in Your Word that lack of knowledge makes people to perish. Deliver me from the false teaching of deceitful prophets and guide me by the leading of the Holy Spirit to know them and distance myself from them. I pray for those also under the manipulative power of these false prophets to be set free. This I ask in the Name of Jesus Christ.
