DEVOTION ~ ABBA FATHER
Theme: Abba Father
Text: Romans 8:14-15
14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. 15 So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.”
A family can be either by blood or by adoption. Adopting a child requires a legal process to establish a legitimate right for the child. This is how we have been spiritually adopted as children of God. Once we accept Jesus through baptism and avail ourselves to be led by His Spirit, we qualify as children of God. The Holy Spirit, whom Christ has sent to us, clears every doubt in us on our adoption and grants us the courage to declare openly that we are children of God. This text illustrates the joy and confidence of an obedient child who, without doubt or fear, can confidently point to his father and the family he belongs to. If we are led by the Spirit of God, this same confidence is given to us to call God as our beloved Father (Abba, Father!).
Let us Pray: Almighty God, thank You for the gift of the Holy Spirit, who takes away my fears, and draws me close to You. Abba, Father, be my guide in all things. May my life bring glory and honour to Your Name. This I ask in the Name of Jesus Christ. AMEN!
