DEVOTION ~ HEIRS

Theme: Heirs
Text: Romans 8:16-17
16 For His Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children. 17 And since we are His children, we are His heirs. In fact, together with Christ, we are heirs of God’s glory. But if we are to share His glory, we must also share His suffering.

To be heirs implies being legally entitled to the property or rank of another on that person's death. Globally, many people have inherited the wealth of others upon their passing. It comes with joy, but that's a temporal inheritance, as death can equally deny the individual the right of ownership. However, as children of God, our Saviour died, was resurrected on the third day, and sent the gift of the Holy Spirit as a seal to our legal right to His inheritance. Yesterday's devotion taught us that we can confidently call God our lovely Father (Abba! Father). This qualifies us to partake in God's inheritance. We must not embrace this with a carnal perspective where heirs are willing to inherit wealth but not obligations. If we are heirs in Christ's glory, we must also be ready to share in His suffering. Dear beloved in the Lord, pick up your cross and be willing to suffer for the advancement of the truth. Don't busy yourself just to enjoy the blessings of God. Be ever ready to share in the pain. I often loved this quote, "No Pain, No Gain". Yes, an heir must embrace both the wealth and obligations.

Let us Pray: Almighty God, I'm ready to be made willing to partake in Your inheritance. Please empower me to share in both the glory and suffering of Christ as Your heir. This I ask in the Name of Jesus Christ. AMEN!
