DEVOTION ~ NEEDLESS OBLIGATIONS

Theme: Needless Obligations
Text: Romans 8:12-13
12 Therefore, dear brothers and sisters, you have no obligation to do what your sinful nature urges you to do. 13 For if you live by its dictates, you will die. But if through the power of the Spirit you put to death the deeds of your sinful nature, you will live. 


Yesterday's devotion taught us that Christ's righteousness has made us right with God, even though we could not fulfil the rigorous requirements of the law of Moses. By His righteousness, we no longer satisfy the gratification of the flesh but rather resist every urge of it. Beloved in the Lord, we owe nothing to the sinful nature. The obligations of the sinful nature are needless because its end is death. Dear beloved in the Lord, do not oblige to sexual sins, lies, drunkenness, orgies, idolatry, and any detestable deed. To overcome the flesh, we must open up to the Holy Spirit. When we avail ourselves to the Holy Spirit, we adhere to God's instructions with ease and put to death every desire to fall into sin. It is only in the power of the Spirit that we can put to death every desire of the sinful nature and embrace eternal life. We cannot do it by our own strength, but with the help of the Spirit of God, we can. 



Let us Pray: Almighty God, open the eyes of my understanding to resist the enticement of the sinful nature. Come, Holy Spirit and make Your home in my heart so that I can put to death the sinful nature and embrace eternal life. This I ask in the Name of Jesus Christ. AMEN!

DEVOTION ~ JUDGING RIGHTEOUSLY

Theme: Judging Righteously Text: Genesis 38:26 26 So Judah acknowledged them and said, “She has been more righteous than I because I did not give her to Shelah my son.” And he never knew her again. Previous devotion taught us that Tamar sent the pledge Judah gave her to him to identify the owner. Upon receiving the items Judah acknowledged his wrong. Judah did not allow pride or ego to cloud his judgment but rather pointed to the role he played in leading Tamar to take such a drastic step to get pregnant. Dear beloved in the Lord, don't be quick to point people's wrong without considering yours. Let us learn from Judah to never push blame to others if we are guilty. Let us Pray: Almighty God, forgive me for employing the full rigour of the law on defaulters but failing to in my own case. Grant me sound judgment to act righteously. This I ask in the Name of Jesus Christ. AMEN!

Do you feel you're forgotten, rejected or insecure? Dear beloved in the Lord, you're not forgotten, for God has engraved your name in His palms. Isaiah 49:16 See, "I have engraved you on the Palms of My Hands: Your walls are ever before Me". If God has engraved your name in His palms, it means He always sees or watches over you. Rise up and shake the fear and doubts off.  Declare, "I am not forgotten or alone. The LORD has engraved me in His Palms. Therefore, His eyes are fixed on me, and He protects me from the wicked. I decree all that I have is secured in the Name of Jesus Christ. AMEN!
