DEVOTION ~ GUARD YOUR HEART AND MIND
Theme: Guard Your Heart and Mind
Text: Mark 7:20-23
20 And He said, “What comes out of a man, that defiles a man. 21 For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, 22 thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness. 23 All these evil things come from within and defile a man.”
Yesterday's devotion taught us that what we eat does not defile us. In today's text, we shall look at things that come from within us that defile us. All our decisions and actions are planned within our hearts and minds. Therefore, we must guard our hearts and minds from pondering over evil deeds. If we feed our hearts and minds with ungodly things, we will soon be pushed to satisfy the desire. The habits of adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness and the like were brooded over time. The sure way to guard our hearts and minds is to study the Word of God and meditate on it. The Holy Spirit will guide us to keep pure and not defile ourselves. The psalmist gave an impressive way to keep pure in Psalms 119:9-11: "How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to Your word. I seek You with all my heart; do not let me stray from Your commands. I have hidden Your Word in my heart that I might not sin against You."
Let us Pray: Almighty God, I surrender my heart to You today. Help me to live godly in all that I do. May ungodly ways be far from me. This I ask in the Name of Jesus Christ. AMEN!
